## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 15, 2026, AT APPROXIMATELY 1830 CDT, THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) OF A POWRACHUTE PEGASUS LIGHT-SPORT AIRCRAFT, REGISTRATION ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, INITIATED A SOUTHBOUND TAKEOFF FROM A DESIGNATED TURF RUNWAY AT HUMBOLDT MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (M53), HUMBOLDT, TENNESSEE.

DURING THE INITIAL TAKEOFF ROLL, THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED A UNFORESTED WIND GUST THAT DEFLECTED THE PARACHUTE CANOPY TO THE SOUTHEAST, PULLING THE AIRCRAFT TOWARD THE SOUTHERN PERIMETER. THE PIC IMMEDIATELY RETARDED THE THROTTLE TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF; HOWEVER, DUE TO THE TURF STRIP'S DESCENDING DOWNHILL GRADIENT, THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD AND COLLIDED WITH A FOUR-FOOT CHAIN-LINK FENCE. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE INITIAL IMPACT, A SECONDARY GUST INFLATED THE EXPOSED CANOPY, LIFTING AND OVERTURNING THE AIRCRAFT OVER THE BOUNDARY FENCE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST INVERTED IN A GRASSY MEDIAN ADJACENT TO THE STATE HIGHWAY. BYSTANDERS ASSISTED THE PILOT FROM THE WRECKAGE AND HE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY AIRLIFTED TO THE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER IN MEMPHIS.

A POST-ACCIDENT VISUAL EXAMINATION NOTED SIGNIFICANT PHYSICAL CONSTRAINTS ALONG THE TURF STRIP, CHARACTERIZED BY AN UNEVEN DESCENDING GRADIENT AND THE ABSENCE OF A DESIGNATED OVERRUN SAFETY AREA. THE FOUR-FOOT CHAIN-LINK PERIMETER FENCE BORDERS THE SOUTH AND EAST MARGINS OF THE AIRPORT, DELINEATING THE AIRPORT BOUNDARY FROM THE ROADWAY BELOW.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA26LA306](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA26LA306), Aug 16, 2026: Powrachute Pegasus (N2541Z), Humboldt, TN, substantial damage, investigation ongoing

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
