THE WHEEL EQUIPPED ACFT BROKE THROUGH THE ICE DURING A TAKEOFF FROM A FROZEN LAKE. THE INCREASED DRAG SLOWED THE ACFT AND THE PLT WAS ABLE TO CLEAR SOME TREES BUT AFTER BOUNCING ALONG FOR 300-400 FT THE ACFT HIT A TREE AND GROUND LOOPED. THE ACFT WRECKAGE WAS REMOVED BEFORE THE INVESTIGATION STARTED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19841125065229A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19841125065229A), Nov 25, 1984: Piper PA18125, Kodiak, AK, Substantial damage. At rotation speed wheels broke thru ice. Lifted off but unable to avoid hitting tree with wing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
