## Probable cause

PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S FAILURE TO ASSURE THAT THE REAR ENGINE DEVELOPED FULL TAKEOFF POWER AND TO ATTAIN TAKEOFF AIRSPEED. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE THE TERRAIN CONDITIONS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Gear collapsed, takeoff - aborted
  - terrain condition - loose gravel/sandy (contributing factor)
  - powerplant controls - improper use of, pilot in command (cause)
  - airspeed - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
  - aborted takeoff - performed, pilot in command
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)
  - landing gear,nose gear - overload

## Analysis

THE PLT REPORTED THAT RIGHT AFTER TAKEOFF FROM THE GRAVEL BAR HE '...FELT THE PLANE SLOW DOWN...AND SAW THE REAR RPM WAS DROPING...' THE TAKEOFF WAS ABORTED AND THE NOSE GEAR SEPARATED DURING THE TOUCHDOWN IN SOFT TERRAIN.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900730029409A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900730029409A), Jul 30, 1990: Cessna 337, Kustatan River, AK, Substantial damage. Reported rear engine lost power on takeoff. Aborted late. Ran off runway.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
