## Probable cause

THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AIR SPEED ON TAKEOFF.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, takeoff - initial climb
  - airspeed - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with object, takeoff - initial climb

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT AFTER LIFT OFF FROM THE LAKE AND AT APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET OF ALTITUDE, THE AIRPLANE ABRUPTLY SETTLED BACK ONTO THE LAKE. THE PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE; THE AIRPLANE THEN CRASHED INTO THE BANK. THE AIRPLANE CAME TO REST 150 FEET FROM THE EDGE OF THE LAKE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900820038159A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900820038159A), Aug 20, 1990: Arctic S1B2, Talkeetna, AK, Substantial damage. Lifted off from a lake but settled to water, continued to another liftoff then struck trees on climbout.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
