## Probable cause

THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S INADEQUATE PREFLIGHT PLANNING/PREPARATION, HIS SELECTION OF UNSUITABLE TERRAIN, AND HIS DELAY IN ABORTING THE TAKEOFF.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, takeoff - aborted
  - preflight planning/preparation - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area - selected, pilot in command (cause)

THE PILOT STATED THAT DURING THE TAKEOFF RUN ON THE RIVER, HE LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE. THE AIRPLANE THEN STRUCK THE RIVER BANK.
