## Probable cause

THE PILOT-INN-COMMAND'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN FLYING SPEED. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS IMPROPER ALTITUDE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, maneuvering
  - terrain condition - high terrain (cause)
  - aircraft control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - weather condition - downdraft (contributing factor)
  - proper altitude - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
  - weather condition - high wind (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, maneuvering

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS FLYING PARALLEL TO A RIDGE LINE WHEN HE ENCOUNTERED A SEVERE DOWNDRAFT. THE AIRPLANE THEN CRASHED ON THE RIDGE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900901037679A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900901037679A), Sep 1, 1990: Cessna 150L, Anchorage, AK, Substantial damage. Flying below a ridge encountered downdraft. Unable to recover, contacted a slope and nosed over. Blamed windshear.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
