## Probable cause

THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS AND THE LACK OF SUITABLE TERRAIN FOR A FORCED LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, cruise - normal
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - emergency
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - none suitable (cause)

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF RPM AND A ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE WHILE IN CRUISE. HE THOUGHT IT WAS CAUSED BY CARBURETOR ICING, BUT APPLICATON OF CARBURETOR HEAT FAILED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. AFTER THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER HE ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON A ROAD, BUT DUE TO THE STRONG WINGS, CRASHED ON THE FROZEN TUNDRA. NO PROBLEMS CONSIDERED CAUSAL TO THE POWER LOSS WERE FOUND.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
