## Probable cause

THE ENGINE POWER LOSS FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS AND THE LACK OF SUITABLE TERRAIN FOR A FORCED LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, takeoff - initial climb
  - reason for occurrence undetermined
  - maintenance - improper, pilot in command
- Forced landing, takeoff - initial climb
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - terrain condition - none suitable (cause)

## Analysis

JUST AFTER TAKEOFF, AND AT ABOUT 150 FEET AGL, THE ENGINE QUIT. THE AIRPLANE LANDED AND NOSED OVER IN A MARSHY AREA ABOUT 1/4 MILE FROM THE RUNWAY. AFTER THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS FLUSHED, THE ENGINE STARTED AND RAN NORMALLY. PROPER MAINTENANCE HAD NOT BEEN PERFORMED ON THE AIRPLANE ENGINE FOR THE PREVIOUS 18 YEARS. THE PILOT WAS ALSO OPERATING WITH A REVOKED PILOT CERTIFICATE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910918046369A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910918046369A), Sep 18, 1991: Univar 1083, Cantwell, AK, Substantial damage. Reported engine quit on climbout. Overturned landing in a marsh. Ice in carb bowl on recovery. Lay inverted 10 days

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
