## Probable cause

THE PILOTS INADEQUATE VISUAL LOOKOUT, AND HIS INADVERTENT VFR FLIGHT INTO IMC CONDITIONS. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WERE THE CLOUDS.

## Analysis

THE PILOT REPORTED THAT WHILE FLYING THROUGH A PASS, IN VFR CONDITIONS, 'A CLOUD OF UNDETERMINED SIZE SUDDENLY AND INEXPLICABLY APPEARED IN FRONT OF ME'. HE TURNED TO ATTEMPT TO GET OUT OF THE CLOUD, AND CRASHED INTO THE MOUNTAINSIDE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920806029539A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920806029539A), Aug 6, 1992: Cessna 207A, Funter Pass, AK, Substantial damage. Trying to negotiate a Pass VFR flew into a cloud. Made descending 180 and struck mountainside.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
