## Probable cause

THE PILOT IN COMMAND NOT MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE. A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT WAS THE WIND GUSTS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Dragged wing,rotor,pod,float or tail/skid, go-around (vfr)
  - weather condition - gusts (contributing factor)
  - aircraft control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- Nose over, go-around (vfr)
  - terrain condition - tundra

## Analysis

THE PURPOSE OF THE FLIGHT WAS TO TRANSPORT A HUNTING GUIDE AND EQUIPMENT TO A NEW LOCATION. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT WHILE PERFORMING A LANDING ON 'RIDGE TOP TUNDRA' A GUST OF WIND HIT THE AIRPLANE ON THE LEFT SIDE. THE PILOT SAID THAT HE MADE AN AILERON CORRECTION AND ADDED FULL POWER FOR A GO AROUND. HOWEVER, THE LEFT WING DRAGGED THE GROUND FOLLOWED IN SHORT ORDER BY THE PROPELLER AND THE PLANE'S NOSE HITTING THE GROUND AND THE AIRPLANE GOING OVER ONTO ITS BACK.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920909035659A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920909035659A), Sep 9, 1992: Piper PA18150, Lime Villiage, AK, Substantial damage. Wind gust caused wing to drag on ground on aborted landing. Aircraft cartwheeled and flipped over on remote strip.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
