## Analysis

SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF, THE ENG SPUTTERED, LOST POWER & BELCHED BLACK & GRAY SMOKE. THE PLT WAS UNABLE TO GET THE ACFT TO MAINTAIN ALTIDUDE. ALSO, HE WAS UNABLE TO REACH AN OPEN FIELD, SO HE LANDED ON THE TOPS OF TREES. AN INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE FRONT BEARING OF THE SUPERCHARGER HAD FAILED. ALSO, THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT ON THE PREVIOUS DAY, AN OIL SCAVENGE LINE HAD BECOME CRACKED WHILE THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING TAXIED. IT WAS REPAIRED PRIOR TO FLT. NO RELATIONSHIP CONCERNING THE SCAVENGE LINE & THE SUPERCHARGER WAS VERIFIED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19830531059569A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19830531059569A), May 31, 1983: Scwzer G164B, Blakely, GA, Destroyed. Engine quit on acceptance flight for owner. Crashed into trees. Turbocharger oil scavenger line had cracked.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
