## Analysis

THE PAX HAD RECEIVED INSTRUCTIONS BY THE PLT ON HOW TO OPEN THE CABIN DOOR. THE ACFT WAS SHUT DOWN ON THE RAMP AND THE PAX ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE CABIN DOOR. THE LATCH WAS TURNED; THE DOOR BEGAN TO FALL OPEN AND THE PAX CAUGHT THE DOOR STEP CHANNEL AT A HINGE POINT. THE PAX FINGER WAS CAUGHT IN THE HINGE AND THE TIP OF THE THIRD FINGER ON THE LEFT HAND WAS SEVERED. THE PAX DID NOT USE THE SAFETY CHAIN TO SUPPORT THE DOOR AS IT WAS OPENED AS WAS DEMONSTRATED BY THE PLT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Incident 19860704062999I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19860704062999I), Jul 4, 1986: Swrngn SA26AT, Waycross, GA. Passenger attempted to open air stair door after landing. Door fell outward. Severed fingertip in step channel.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
