## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AIRSPEED.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, approach - vfr pattern - downwind
  - airspeed - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE PRIVATE PILOT WAS FLYING HIS FIRST SOLO FLIGHT IN THE EXPERIMENTAL AIRPLANE. WITNESSES WATCHED AS THE PILOT FLEW TOUCH AND GO APPROACHES IN A RIGHT TRAFFIC PATTERN. WHILE ON THE THIRD DOWNWIND, AS THE AIRPLANE APPROACHED THE POSITION FOR THE BASE LEG, IT ROLLED VIOLENTLY TO THE LEFT AND DESCENDED TO IMPACT. NO DISCREPANCIES WERE FOUND WITH THE ENGINE NOR THE FLIGHT CONTROLS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900619023589A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900619023589A), Jun 19, 1990: Amtrrl BREEZYRLU1, Pell City, AL, Substantial damage, 1 fatal. Aircraft rolled to the left on right turn to base. Pilots first solo in type.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
