## Probable cause

THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S FAILURE TO INSURE HIS AIRPLANE WAS CLEAR OF A PARKED AIRCRAFT WHILE MANEUVERING TO PARK.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, taxi - from landing
  - clearance - misjudged, pilot in command (cause)
  - visual lookout - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - proper assistance - not used, pilot in command (cause)
  - object - aircraft parked/standing

## Analysis

WHILE TAXING ONTO RAMP AFTER LANDING AND PREPARING TO MAKE A 180 DEGREE TURN TO PARK BETWEEN TWO PARKED AIRCRAFT, THE PILOT MISJUDGED THE HEIGHT OF HIS AIRPLANE'S TAIL AS HE TAXIED UNDER THE WING OF A PARKED AIRPLANE. THE TAIL COLLIDED WITH THE WING OF THE PARKED AIRPLANE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19891113045119A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19891113045119A), Nov 13, 1989: Frchld 24HS, Atlanta, GA, Substantial damage. Tail struck wing of a parked aircraft while swinging into parking area.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
