## Probable cause

PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL UPON LANDING AND SUBSEQUENT PREMATURE ROTATION OF THE AIRPLANE DURING THE GO-AROUND ATTEMPT. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE PILOT'S LACK OF TOTAL EXPERIENCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - go-around - attempted, pilot in command
  - rotation - premature, pilot in command (cause)
- Loss of control - in flight, go-around (vfr)
  - stall - encountered, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE STUDENT PILOT WAS PRACTICING TOUCH-AND-GO LANDINGS DURING HIS FIRST UNSUPERVISED SOLO FLIGHT. AFTER HIS THIRD OR FOURTH LANDING, THE AIRPLANE VEERED TO THE LEFT AND TOWARDS A HANGAR. HE INITIATED A GO-AROUND AND ROTATED PREMATURELY, STALLING THE AIRPLANE. THE AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH THE GROUND IN A NOSE LOW ATTITUDE. THE PILOT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRPLANE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900619022119A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900619022119A), Jun 19, 1990: Cessna 150M, Knoxville, TN, Substantial damage. Veered left on crosswind landing. Stalled and collided with ground. Nose and left wing down during go around.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
