## Probable cause

A PREVIOUSLY FRACTURED MAIN WHEEL WHICH HAD RESULTED FROM A HARD LANDING. A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT WAS INADEQUATE INSPECTION BY THE OPERATOR.

## Analysis

THE PILOT SAID HE WAS RETURNING TO THE AIRSTRIP FROM THE SPRAYED FIELD. HE NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT TIRE AND WHEEL HALF WERE MISSING. AFTER LANDING THE RIGHT STRUT WAS HELD OFF THE RWY UNTIL AIRSPEED SLOWED. WHEN THE RIGHT STRUT DRAGGED THE RWY, THE AIRPLANE NOSED DOWN. THE WHEEL WAS FOUND TO HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY FRACTURED. THE PILOT RECALLED A HARD LANDING SIX WEEKS BEFORE THE ACCIDENT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900926042459A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900926042459A), Sep 26, 1990: Scwzer G164B, Minturn, SC, Substantial damage. Lost right tire and wheel half on takeoff. Nosed down on landing. Had made prior hard landing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
