## Probable cause

THAT THE PILOT DRAGGED THE RIGHT WING TIP ON FINAL APPROACH WHEN HE FAILED TO CONTROL THE AIRCRAFT. FACTORS TO THIS ACCIDENT WERE: A WIND SHIFT BELOW THE TREETOPS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with terrain/water, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - weather condition - unfavorable wind (contributing factor)
  - aircraft control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- Dragged wing,rotor,pod,float or tail/skid, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

THE PILOT HAD COMPLETED A LOCAL PLEASURE FLIGHT AND WAS ON A SHORT FINAL BELOW THE SURROUNDING TREETOPS WHEN THE WIND CHANGED. HE ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE ROLL CONDITION, BUT ALLOWED THE RIGHT WING TO CONTACT THE GROUND. THE PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE GLIDER PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
