## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO REFUEL THE AIRPLANE PRIOR TO THE LAST TAKEOFF RESULTING IN AN INADEQUATE FUEL SUPPLY FOR THE FLIGHT.

## Sequence of events

## Analysis

THE ENGINE QUIT WHILE FLYING AT A CRUISE ALTITUDE. EXAMINATION OF THE AIRCRAFT DISCLOSED THAT 1/2 GALLON OF AUTOMOTIVE FUEL WAS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT. THE PILOT DEPARTED WITHOUT REFUELING AFTER A 3 HOUR 40 MINUTE FLIGHT THE DAY BEFORE. THE ENGINE QUIT APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT. THE ESTIMATED FUEL ENDURANCE FOR THIS AIRPLANE WAS 4 HOURS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910920042139A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910920042139A), Sep 20, 1991: Cessna 150G, Pleasant Grove, AL, Substantial damage. Engine quit en route. Trying to land struck powerline. Fell into residence yard. No fuel onboard after accident.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
