## Probable cause

THE FAILURE OF THE PILOT TO PROPERLY COMPENSATE FOR THE CROSSWIND RESULTING IN FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DURING LANDING. A FACTOR WAS THE CROSSWIND CONDITION.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - aborted
  - airport facilities,runway/landing area condition - ditch

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT DURING THE CROSSWIND LANDING ATTEMPT. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AND COLLIDED WITH A DITCH ON THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920312006169A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920312006169A), Mar 12, 1992: Cessna 150M, Jessup, GA, Substantial damage. Lost control and ran off runway landing in a light crosswind. Ran into a ditch and nosed over.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
