## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AIRSPEED DURING MANEUVERING FLIGHT, WHICH RESULTED IN A STALL/SPIN AND COLLISION WITH THE TERRAIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, maneuvering
  - airspeed - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall/spin - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE PRIVATE PILOT WAS FLYING HIS NEWLY PURCHASED AIRCRAFT IN THE LOCAL AREA. HE CIRCLED A MINE, AND WAS SEEN WAVING TO PEOPLE ON THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT THEN ENTERED A SPIRALLING DESCENT, AND IMPACTED THE GROUND. THE WRECKAGE WAS FOUND INVERTED. AN EXAMINATION OF THE WRECKAGE REVEALED CONTINUITY IN THE FLIGHT CONTROLS. THERE WAS ROTATIONAL DAMAGE TO THE WOODEN PROPELLER. NO EVIDENCE OF MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION OR FAILURE WAS FOUND.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930412056329A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930412056329A), Apr 12, 1993: Amtrai WOODYPUSHER, Bradley, FL, Destroyed, 1 fatal. Observed to spiral to ground in gravel pit. No aircraft anomalies.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
