## Probable cause

THE PILOT FAILURE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE ALTITUDE AND CLEARANCE FROM A POWERLINE DURING THE LANDING APPROACH. A FACTOR WAS THE UNMARKED POWERLINE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, approach
  - object - wire,transmission (contributing factor)
  - altitude - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - clearance - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

WITNESSES REPORTED THE ACFT WAS ON LANDING APPROACH WHEN IT STRUCK UNMARKED POWER LINES ABOUT 1000 FEET SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. WITNESSES SAID THE ACFT BANKED LEFT JUST BEFORE THE ACFT STRUCK THE POWER LINE. WITNESSES ALSO REPORTED THE ENGINE WAS OPERATING UP UNTIL THE ACCIDENT. THE EXAMINATION DID NOT REVEAL EVIDENCE OF MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900213004789A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900213004789A), Feb 13, 1990: Cessna 150F, Arden, NC, Destroyed, 1 fatal. Picked up aircraft at Private strip after repaint. Returned 15 min after takeoff, hit powerlines and crashed landing

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
