## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S MISIDENTIFICATION OF A ROAD FOR THE RUNWAY. FACTORS WERE SUNGLARE AND THE PILOT'S UNFAMILIARITY WITH THE AIRPORT, AND INADEQUATE VISUAL LOOKOUT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - light condition - sunglare (contributing factor)
  - visual lookout - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of familiarity with geographic area, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - wrong runway - selected, pilot in command (cause)
  - terrain condition - roadway/highway
  - object - vehicle

## Analysis

THE PILOT MISTAKENLY LANDED ON A ROAD PARALLEL AND EAST OF RUNWAY ONE, WHERE HE INTENDED TO LAND. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A PARKED TRUCK DURING THE LANDING ROLL. HE SAID SUNLIGHT OBSTRUCTED HIS VISION DURING THE APPROACH. HE DIDN'T REALIZE THE MISTAKE UNTIL AFTER HE LANDED. THIS WAS HIS FIRST FLIGHT TO THE AIRPORT.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
