## Probable cause

PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE AIRCRAFT CONTROL DURING THE LANDING FLARE/TOUCHDOWN. THE TURBULENT WEATHER WAS A RELATED FACTOR.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - weather condition - turbulence (contributing factor)
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose gear collapsed, landing - flare/touchdown
  - landing gear,nose gear - overload

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO BUFFET AND STALLED WHILE ON SHORT FINAL. THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED THE RUNWAY NOSE FIRST AND THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED. THE AIRPLANE SWERVED OFF THE RUNWAY AND SKIDDED DOWN A WOODED EMBANKMENT LOCATED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE AIRPORT. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE FLIGHT ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TURBULENCE DURING THE DESCENT, AND THERE WAS A RIGHT 10 KNOT CROSSWIND, WITH GUSTS TO 15 KNOTS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19901204052809A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19901204052809A), Dec 4, 1990: Gulstm 690C, Summersville, WV, Substantial damage. Landed in heavy turbulence. Impact nose first. Folded nose gear. Left runway down embankment. Failed keep control.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
