## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE OBSTACLE CLEARANCE. CONTRIBUTING WAS INADEQUATE ALTITUDE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, maneuvering
  - object - wire,static (contributing factor)
  - clearance - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - altitude - inadequate, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE PILOT MADE A LOW PASS TO ANNOUNCE HIS ARRIVAL IN THE AREA TO A GROUND PERSON, WHO WOULD THEN MEET THE PILOT AT A NEARBY AIRPORT. DURING THE PASS, THE AIRPLANE STRUCK AN UNMARKED STATIC WIRE AND DESCENDED TO THE GROUND. THE WIRES WERE SUSPENDED BETWEEN TWO HILLS. THE STATIC WIRE WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 200 TO 250 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910224003369A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910224003369A), Feb 24, 1991: Cessna 182C, Bonnyman, KY, Destroyed, 1 fatal. Struck a powerline static wire while making a low pass over a flea market. Fell vertically to ground down a slope.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
