## Probable cause

THE PILOT MISJUDGED DISTANCE AND ALTITUDE WHICH RESULTED IN A LANDING OVERRUN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Overrun, landing - roll
  - distance - misjudged, pilot in command (cause)
  - altitude - misjudged, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose over, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT WAS LANDING TO THE SOUTH ON A 2200-FOOT GRASS STRIP, WHEN ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, THE RIGHT BRAKE FAILED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE AIRPLANE BEFORE IT EXITED THE RUNWAY AND COLLIDED WITH A SOFT PATCH AND NOSED OVER. THE FAA REPORTED SKID MARKS ON THE RUNWAY, AND EXAMINATION OF THE AIRPLANE DID NOT DISCLOSE EVIDENCE OF MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920728027969A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920728027969A), Jul 28, 1992: Waco AVN8, Hamilton, OH, Substantial damage. Unable to stop landing roll on short strip. Ran off end runway. Nosed over.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
