## Probable cause

THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS. THE LACK OF SUITABLE TERRAIN FOR THE FORCED LANDING WAS A FACTOR.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - nonmechanical, climb
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IN TWO WEEKS THE AIRPLANE WAS FLOWN. THE PILOT WAS TAKING OFF ON RUNWAY 14 WHEN THE ENGINE LOST PARTIAL POWER ABOUT 15 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. HE SAID THAT HE MADE A FORCED LANDING IN THE FIELD STRAIGHT AHEAD. DURING THE LANDING, THE LEFT MAIN GEAR SHEARED OFF AND THE AIRPLANE EXITED THE RUNWAY INTO A HEAVILY WOODED AREA. ACCORDING TO THE FAA, EXAMINATION OF THE ENGINE DID NOT DISCLOSE EVIDENCE OF MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION. THE EXAMINATION INCLUDED STARTING AND RUNNING THE ENGINE AT VARIOUS POWER SETTINGS. THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920909035619A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920909035619A), Sep 9, 1992: Beech B19, Revere, PA, Substantial damage. Believed power loss on takeoff. Aborted. Landed nose first shearing gear. Slid off end runway into a back yard.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
