## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AIRSPEED DURING THE GO-AROUND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, go-around (vfr)
  - go-around - performed, pilot in command
  - airspeed - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command
- In flight collision with terrain/water, go-around (vfr)

## Analysis

THE AIRPLANE WAS OBSERVED TO ENTER THE TRAFFIC PATTERN AFTER THE PILOT REQUESTED AND RECEIVED AN AIRPORT ADVISORY. THE PILOT DID NOT REPORT ANY PROBLEMS, AND THE ENGINE 'SOUNDED GOOD' DURING THE TIME. WITNESSES OBSERVED THE AIRPLANE TURN ONTO A 'VERY SHORT FINAL APPROACH.' AS IT CROSSED THE THRESHOLD ABOUT 20 FT ABOVE THE RUNWAY, IT 'BALLOONED' AND 'YAWED'. FULL ENGINE POWER WAS HEARD, AND THE AIRPLANE TURNED TO THE RIGHT AS IT CLIMBED TO ABOUT 100 FT. AS IT WAS HEADING TOWARDS HANGARS, IT STEEPENED ITS BANK TO THE RIGHT, PITCHED DOWN, AND IMPACTED THE GROUND.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930725025519A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930725025519A), Jul 25, 1993: Piper PA28140, Clearfield, PA, Destroyed, 1 fatal. Over controlling on final. Began go around dropped a wing. Stalled. Cartwheeled on impact and burned.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
