## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADEQUATE VISUAL LOOKOUT, WHICH RESULTED IN HIS MISJUDGMENT OF CLEARANCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, taxi - from landing
  - object - airport facility (contributing factor)
  - visual lookout - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - distance - misjudged, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

THE PILOT WAS TAXIING FROM LANDING WHEN, ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, HE MISJUDGED HIS DISTANCE AND THE ROTOR BLADES STRUCK THE HANGAR. THE TIP OF ONE OF THE BLADES SEPARATED AND PUNCTURED A HOLE IN THE TAIL SECTION OF A PARKED, UNOCCUPIED, SINGLE-ENGINE PIPER AIRPLANE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930219003029A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930219003029A), Feb 19, 1993: Agusta A109A, Lincoln Park, NJ, Substantial damage. Aerial taxi from landing. Rotor struck hangar. Blade tip broke off striking parked aircraft.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
