## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADEQUATE COMPENSATION FOR WIND CONDITIONS AND IMPROPER RECOVERY FROM A BOUNCED LANDING. THE GUSTY WIND CONDITION WAS A RELATED FACTOR.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - weather condition - gusts (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - recovery from bounced landing - improper, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose gear collapsed, landing - flare/touchdown
  - landing gear,nose gear - overload

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT JUST BEFORE TOUCHDOWN, A GUST OF WIND WAS ENCOUNTERED THAT LIFTED THE AIRPLANE, AND THEN IT TOUCHED DOWN HARD. HE STATED THAT THE AIRPLANE BOUNCED AND TOUCHED DOWN HARD AGAIN, THEN THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED AND TORE AWAY FROM THE AIRPLANE.
