## Probable cause

The pilot's failure to maintain aircraft control during the go-around.

## Findings

NTSB's coded findings; those marked are part of the probable cause.

## Analysis

Prior to the flight, the pilot contacted the destination airport's fixed based operator to inquire about the local wind conditions. He planned on diverting to an alternate airport if the crosswind was too strong. During the final approach to the airport, the airplane encountered turbulent wind. The airplane ballooned during the landing flare, and the pilot executed a go-around. During the attempted go-around, the left wing contacted terrain, and came to rest upright adjacent to a residence. During the accident sequence, the airplane sustained damage to the firewall, fuselage, and both wings. Postaccident examination of the airplane showed no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane.

## Docket (1 files)

The files NTSB released with the investigation on March 28, 2011, on NTSB's docket system: https://data.ntsb.gov/Docket?ProjectID=78388. 469 KB in all.

- Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident Report, NTSB Form 6120.1 (item 1, .PDF, 469 KB): https://data.ntsb.gov/Docket/Document/docBLOB?ID=40345150&FileExtension=.PDF&FileName=Pilot%2FOperator%20Aircraft%20Accident%20Report,%20NTSB%20Form%206120.1-Redacted.PDF

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
