## Factual narrative

On April 28, 2018, about 0720 UTC, a Beechcraft BE-58P, Swiss registry HB-GGP, operated by a private individual, experienced an uncontained engine failure while in cruise flight near the Hautes-Alpes, France. The pilot, the sole person on board was not injured. The airplane sustained substantial damage. Day, visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident for the personal flight. The flight departed Les Eplatures Airport (LSGC), La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, and was en route to Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte Airport (LFKJ), Ajaccio, France.Following the uncontained engine failure, the pilot diverted to Avignon Caumont Airport (LFMV), Avignon, France, where he performed an uneventful single-engine landing. An examination of the airplane showed substantial damage to the engine and engine cowls, and minor damage on the upper wing surface near the leading edge. This investigation is under the jurisdiction and control of the French government.
