## Probable cause

The pilot’s failure to maintain elevator control during the landing, which resulted in a nose over.

## Findings

NTSB's coded findings; those marked are part of the probable cause.

## Sequence of events

The events NTSB coded, in order, by phase of flight. The defining event best describes what happened.

- [Landing: Nose over/nose down](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb-events/096) (defining event); cases with it: [John Carl Mcintyre EXP SUPER CUB, 1 case](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb-events/096/sequence.md?model=05642EE), [All aircraft, 2,287 cases](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb-events/096/sequence.md)

## Analysis

During the landing roll on the dry grass strip, the pilot relaxed elevator pressure from the control stick before applying brakes and the airplane nosed over, coming to rest inverted. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left wing, vertical stabilizer and the rudder. The pilot reported there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airframe or the engine that would have precluded normal operation. The pilot reported that he should not have released elevator back pressure before coming to a complete stop.
