## Probable cause

The pilot’s failure to attain a proper touchdown point which resulted in a long landing and subsequent runway overrun.

## Findings

NTSB's coded findings; those marked are part of the probable cause.

## Sequence of events

The events NTSB coded, in order, by phase of flight. The defining event best describes what happened.

- [Landing-landing roll: Landing area overshoot](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb-events/380) (defining event); cases with it: [Cessna 210M, 1 case](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb-events/380/sequence.md?model=2073450), [All aircraft, 400 cases](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb-events/380/sequence.md)

## Analysis

During the approach, the pilot landed long. He evaluated the remaining runway, determined it was sufficient to stop the airplane, and decided to continue the landing. The airplane overran the end of the runway, impacted a small ditch, crossed a road, and came to rest upright in a larger ditch. During the runway overrun, the airplane sustained substantial damage to the lower fuselage. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
