THE ACFT RAN OFF A ROAD INTO A DITCH WHICH DESTROYED THE MAIN LANDING GEAR DURING THE FORCED LANDING. THE PLT SAID OIL COVERED THE WINDSHIELD AFTER TAKEOFF AND HE COULD NOT SEE WELL ENOUGH TO FIND THE AIRSTRIP SO HE LANDED ON THE ROAD WHILE LOOKING OUT THE SIDE WINDOW. THE OIL SIPHONED OUT OF THE OPEN OIL FILLER PORT AND WAS BLOWN OVER THE ACFT. THE PLTSAID HE WAS DISTRACTED AFTER PUTTING OIL IN THE ACFT AND FORGOT TO PUT THE DIPSTICK/CAP BACK ON.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19840612026399A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19840612026399A), Jun 12, 1984: Eagle DW1, Oklee, MN, Substantial damage. Forgot to replace oil filler cap. Oil on windshield on takeoff. Landed on a road and ran off into a ditch.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
