## Analysis

THE PLT WAS DIVERTING INTO GALESBURG DUE TO BAD WEATHER AT HIS ORIGINAL DESTINATION. FOLLOWING AN ILS APPROACH AT GALESBURG HE SPOTTED THE RWY AT '200 FT PLUS' OFF TO HIS RIGHT. HE THEN 'SIDE-STEPPED' TO THE RIGHT BUT TOUCHED DOWN IN A CRABBED ANGLE. HE ATTEMPTED TO GO-AROUND BUT AS PWR WAS APPLIED, THE ACFT SETTLED TO THE RWY ONTO COLLAPSED LANDINGGEAR.

- [Accident 19860214002779A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19860214002779A), Feb 14, 1986: Cessna 172N, St Cloud, MN, Substantial damage. On second touchdown, misaligned with runway centerline. Off runway side, over snowbank and impacted the ground.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
