## Analysis

PILOT ELECTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 18 BECAUSE THE WINDSOCK WAS INDICATING WIND TO BE FROMTHE SOUTH. UPON TOUCHDOWN IN THE FIRST THIRD OF THE RUNWAY THE AIRCRAFT SKIPPED SLIGHTLY. PILOT CHOSE TO TRY TO STOP RATHER THAN ATTEMPT A GO-AROUND AND APPLIED HEAVY BRAKING. THE AIRCRAFT OVERRAN THE RUNWAY AND FLIPPED OVER. AFTER EXITING THE AIRCRAFT, THE PILOT NOTED THAT THE WIND HAD SHIFTED AND WAS FROM THE NORTH.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19860627028359A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19860627028359A), Jun 27, 1986: Amtrpt PITTSSPECIAL, Peru, IL, Substantial damage. The aircraft overshot on a long, fast landing. Thunderstorms in the area shifted winds. Downwind landing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
