## Analysis

WHEN THE PLT ATTEMPTED TO ADD PWR TO LEVEL OFF FROM A DSCNT, THE ENG DID NOT RESPOND. HE THEN APPLIED CARB HEAT & TRIED TO RESTART THE ENG, BUT TO NO AVAIL. DURING AN EMERG LANDING, THE ACFT TOUCHED DOWN WITH A TAILWIND, STRUCK A FENCE & SKIDDED TO A STOP IN A CORNFIELD. NO PREIMPACT MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WERE RPRTD. THE PLT BELIEVED THE ENG MAY HAVE LOST PWR DUE TO CARB ICE; CONDS WERE CONDUCIVE TO CARB ICE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19870806050409A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19870806050409A), Aug 6, 1987: Piper PA28140, Fairwater, WI, Substantial damage. Engine failed to respond after a long descent. Landed downwind. Ballooned into a fence. Pilot believed carb icing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
