## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - nonmechanical, takeoff - roll/run
  - 1 engine
  - aircraft preflight - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - fluid,fuel - water (cause)
  - powerplant - surge (cause)
- Loss of control - on ground/water, takeoff - roll/run
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, takeoff - aborted
  - terrain condition - ditch
- Gear collapsed, takeoff - aborted
  - landing gear,main gear - overload

## Analysis

DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL, THE RIGHT ENGINE 'SURGED'. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT, AND THE AIRCRAFT SWERVED TO THE RIGHT, DEPARTED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, STRUCK A DITCH AND GROUNDLOOPED, COLLAPSING THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM FOR THE RIGHT ENGINE CONTAINED WATER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19880719027219A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19880719027219A), Jul 19, 1988: Beech E18S, Lorain - Elyria, OH, Substantial damage. Right engine surged on takeoff roll. Lost directional control and ground looped. Found water in right engine fuel.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
