## Probable cause

THE PILOT FAILED TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE DURING A BOUNCED LANDING. A FACTOR RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE PILOT'S EVASIVE MANEUVER TO AVOID ROLLING INTO A STONE QUARRY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - level off - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - recovery from bounced landing - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - ground loop/swerve - inadvertent, pilot in command
- Nose over, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - ravine (contributing factor)
  - maneuver - intentional, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

DURING LANDING THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE RUNNING OFF THE RUNWAY. PILOT STATED HE APPLIED BOTH BRAKES HARD TO AVOID A STONE QUARRY OFF TAXIWAY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19890927037029A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890927037029A), Sep 27, 1989: Amtrqk QUICKIE2, Lake In The Hil, IL, Destroyed. Lost directional control on landing and veered right side of runway. Applied brakes to stop and flipped over.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
