## Analysis

THE STUDENT PILOT WAS CRUISING AT 2000' MSL ON A SOLO FLIGHT, WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES WERE INITIATED AND A FORCED LANDING WAS MADE IN AN OPEN FIELD. DURING THE LANDING ROLL, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A DIRT BANK AND WAS DAMAGED. A POST-ACCIDENT INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE REVEALED NO EVIDENCE OF A MECHANICAL PROBLEM. WHEN AN ENGINE RUN-UP WAS MADE, ALL SYSTEMS OPERATED SATISFACTORILY. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE CONDUCIVE TO FORMATION OF CARBURETOR ICE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19881211054049A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19881211054049A), Dec 11, 1988: Cessna 150M, Varna, IL, Substantial damage. Reported engine quit. Hit dirt mound landing in a field. Engine ran normal after accident. Possible carb ice.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
