## Probable cause

INADEQUATE AIRSPEED RESULTING IN A STALL/MUSH BEING ENCOUNTERED BY THE PIC. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE A TAILWIND AND A LOAD JETTISON NOT PERFORMED.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, maneuvering - aerial application
  - weather condition - tailwind (contributing factor)
  - load jettison - not performed, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - airspeed - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall/mush - encountered, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

WHILE CONDUCTING AN AERIAL APPLICATION OPERATION, THE PLT SAID THAT DURING A MANEUVERING TURN, WITH A QUARTERING TAILWIND, THE ACFT SETTLED AND COLLIDED WITH THE TERRAIN. THE PLT DID NOT DUMP HIS CHEMICAL LOAD BEFORE COLLIDING WITH THE TERRAIN.

## Other investigations on N2329Y (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI00LA149](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI00LA149), Jun 1, 2000: Piper PA-36-200 (N2329Y), Oakley, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: the directional control not maintained by the pilot. The thunderstorm, quartering tailwind/crosswind and the weather evaluation by the pilot were contributing factors.
