## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO USE ALL AVAILABLE RUNWAY AND FAILURE TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Overrun, takeoff - roll/run
  - all available runway - not used, pilot in command (cause)
  - complacency, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - aborted takeoff - not performed, pilot in command (cause)
  - airspeed(vlof) - not maintained
- In flight collision with object, takeoff
  - object - vehicle
  - object - residence

## Analysis

THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO TAKEOFF FROM MIDFIELD ON A 4,000 FOOT SOFT GRASS STRIP WITH NO FLAPS. HE DID NOT ATTAIN LIFT-OFF SPEED, AND DID NOT ABORT THE TAKEOFF WHEN HE REALIZED HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPEED. AT THE LAST MOMENT HE TRIED TO GET AIRBORNE TO AVOID HITTING A RESIDENCE AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT HIT A VEHICLE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY OF THE RESIDENCE AND CARTWHEELED INTO THE ATTACHED GARAGE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900624021839A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900624021839A), Jun 24, 1990: Cessna 152, Hagerstown, IN, Substantial damage, 1 fatal. Settled back to runway after airborne on hump. Lifted again too late and hit garage and vehicles off end of runway.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
