## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADEQUATE TAKEOFF PROCEDURE, PREMATURE LIFTOFF AND DELAYED REACTION TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Overrun, takeoff - aborted
  - lift-off - premature, pilot in command (cause)
  - procedure inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - aborted takeoff - delayed, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose gear collapsed, takeoff - aborted
  - landing gear,nose gear - overload
  - unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area - encountered, pilot in command

## Analysis

THE PILOT ABORTED HIS TAKEOFF AFTER LIFTING OFF DUE TO PERCEIVED AIRPLANE PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION. THE TAKEOFF PROCEDURE BEING USED WAS NOT THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE. THE AIRPLANE WAS AT MAX GROSS WEIGHT ON A HOT DAY. THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN ON THE MAIN LANDING GEAR AND THE PILOT IN COMMAND LOCKED THE BRAKES. THE AIRPLANE SKIDDED ALONG THE RUNWAY AND OFF ITS END STRIKING A HIGHWAY EDGE LIP, BECOMING INVERTED AS IT SLID ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. THE PLANE ULTIMATELY CAME TO REST IN A FIELD ADJACENT TO THE HIGHWAY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900725028469A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900725028469A), Jul 25, 1990: Cessna 172L, Plymouth, MI, Substantial damage. Aircraft didnt feel right on takeoff. Aborted ran off end hit road curb. Nosed over. Main tires flat by braking.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
