## Probable cause

THE DUAL STUDENT DID NOT MAINTAIN PROPER GLIDEPATH AND HIS MISJUDGMENT FOR COMPENSATION FOR WIND CONDITIONS RESULTED IN A COLLISION WITH UTILITY WIRES. THE CFI'S INADEQUATE SUPERVISION DURING THE DUEL FLIGHT OPERATION CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - object - wire,static
  - compensation for wind conditions - misjudged, dual student (cause)
  - proper glidepath - not maintained, dual student (cause)
  - supervision - inadequate, pilot in command(cfi) (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE CFI STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING A LANDING IN A STRONG CROSSWIND, THE STUDENT PILOT MADE AN ABRUPT MOVEMENT OF THE ELEVATOR. THE INSTRUCTOR WAS UNABLE TO RECOVER BEFORE THE GLIDER STRUCK A WIRE. THE AIRCRAFT RECOILED INTO THE GROUND.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19891203048789A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19891203048789A), Dec 3, 1989: Scwzer SGS233A, Waynesville, OH, Substantial damage. Struck wires on approach for landing and fell inverted to ground.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
