## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE PILOT TO COMPLETE THE LANDING CHECKLIST AND LOWER THE LANDING GEAR. CONTRIBUTING TO THIS ACCIDENT IS HABIT PATTERN INTERFERENCE AND DISTRACTION.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Gear not extended, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - checklist - not followed, pilot in command (cause)
  - diverted attention, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - habit interference, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

THE PILOT HAD EXECUTED A GO AROUND ON HIS FIRST APPROACH DUE TO DEER ON THE RUNWAY. ON THE NEXT APPROACH, ANOTHER AIRCRAFT CALLED ON THE BASE LEG TO AN INTERSECTING RUNWAY WHEN THE PILOT WAS TURNING TO THE BASE LEG. PILOT WAS DISTRACTED LOOKING FOR OTHER AIRCRAFT AND CONTINUED APPROACH WITH INTENTION OF HOLDING SHORT OF INTERSECTING RUNWAY. PILOT FAILED TO LOWER GEAR AND MADE GEAR UP LANDING.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900417010229A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900417010229A), Apr 17, 1990: Gulstm 690, Sheboygan, WI, Substantial damage. Distracted by other traffic and go around because of deer on runway. Landed gear up.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
