## Probable cause

THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S INADEQUATE COMPENSATION FOR WIND CONDITIONS, AND HIS FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, takeoff - roll/run
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - weather condition - gusts (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water collision with object, takeoff
  - object - fence (contributing factor)
- Nose over, takeoff

## Analysis

THE PILOT BEGAN A TAKEOFF ON RUNWAY 36. DURING THE INITIAL ROLL GROUND RUN, HE LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY, IMPACTED A FENCE & NOSED OVER. ABOUT 10 MIN BEFORE THE OCCURRENCE, WINDS AT THE NEAREST REPORTING STATION WERE FROM 310 DEG AT 18 GUSTING 27 KTS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900518016769A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900518016769A), May 18, 1990: Cessna 2105A, Piqua, OH, Substantial damage. Lost directional control trying to depart in strong crosswind. Ran off runway into a fence and nosed over.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
