## Probable cause

VSO AIRSPEED NOT MAINTAINED AND STALL ENCOUNTERED BY THE PILOT IN COMMAND/CFI.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - airspeed(vso) - not maintained, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - stall - encountered, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
- Hard landing, descent - uncontrolled
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

WHILE DEMONSTRATING A SHORT FIELD LANDING, THE CFI AND STUDENT PILOT LANDED HARD, COLLAPSING THE NOSE WHEEL, THEN NOSING OVER. THE CFI SAID THAT HE HAD INSUFFICIENT AIRSPEED AND THE NOSE DROPPED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO FLARE. THE APPROACH END OF THE PVT SOD STRIP WAS SURROUNDED BY TREES AND A LIGHT CROSS WIND EXISTED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
