## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE THE DETERIORATING AIRSPEED AND IMMINENT STALL DURING THE LANDING FLARE, WHICH RESULTED IN A HARD LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - diverted attention, pilot in command
  - airspeed - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall - encountered, pilot in command

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS FOLLOWING TRAFFIC FOR THE LENDING RUNWAY WHEN HE WAS ADVISED OF A DISPLACED THRESHOLD. HE REPORTED THAT 'WHILE EXTENDING THE LANDING, I STALLED JUST ABOVE THE RUNWAY RESULTING IN A HARD LANDING.'

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900726028989A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900726028989A), Jul 26, 1990: Beech A36TC, Oshkosh, WI, Substantial damage. Advised of displaced threshold. Tried to stretch glide on short final, stalled, and impacted runway damaging a wing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
