## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE PILOT IN COMMAND TO MAINTAIN AIRSPEED RESULTING IN AN INADVERTENT STALL AND SPIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, climb - to cruise
  - airspeed(vs) - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall/spin - encountered, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience in type of aircraft, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF THE AIRCRAFT TURNED ONTO A RIGHT DOWNWIND, AND WAS OBSERVED IN A NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE, THEN DISAPPEARED FROM VIEW. THE ACFT SUBSEQENTLY COLLIDED WITH THE TERRAIN IN A NOSE DOWN, RIGHT WING LOW ATTITUDE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900807031019A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900807031019A), Aug 7, 1990: Amtren VOLKSPLANE*, Kingman, KS, Substantial damage. Dived into ground shortly after takeoff. Pilot does not remember flight due head injury.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
