## Probable cause

GO-AROUND DELAYED BY THE PILOT IN COMMAND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, landing - aborted
  - object - fence post (cause)
  - airspeed - excessive, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - proper touchdown point - not attained, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - go-around - delayed, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE PVT PILOT OF THE HOMEBUILT ACFT SAID THAT HE HAD TOO MUCH AIRSPEED ON FINAL APPROACH AND DECIDED TO MAKE A GO-AROUND. HE SAID THAT HE MADE A LATE DECISION AND WAS UNABLE TO CLEAR OBSTACLES AT THE END OF THE PRIVATE STRIP. THE ACFT COLLIDED WITH A GATE, THEN CAREENED INTO A CORN FIELD. THE LEFT LANDING GEAR AND WING SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900807031529A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900807031529A), Aug 7, 1990: Amtrdf KITFOX, Grundy Center, IA, Substantial damage. Late in electing to go around. Collided with a gate off end off runway.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
